Extensive food service experience has been both on a collaborative level, as well as consulting directly with end users. Project types range from small retail/restaurant design, to full service restaurants, up to institutional installations, including commercial, hospitality, educational and correctional facilities.

Michael offers hands-on experience, through in the field coordination, equipment installation, and job site measurements, as well as coordination of the various disciplines associated with projects, large and small.

Michael Cuadra's Bio

Michael was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He began his design career at the age of four when he received his first Lego set. His love of design developed throughout his schooling until finally, in high school, he was mentored by his drafting instructor, Mr. Angle. As a school project, Michael designed, and drafted, a remodel of his father’s kitchen. His father liked the design so much he made it a reality.

Shortly out of high school Michael was offered an opportunity by Dan Phipps to be his draftsman and learn the field of commercial kitchen design. Within a few years he’d accepted a position with Economy Restaurant Fixtures of San Francisco working closely with Lap Vu, a classically trained french architect. While at Economy, Michael spearheaded the transition from pen and paper to CADD.

In 1999 Michael began accepting jobs on his own and after a brief stint working with The Marshall Associates, he forged ahead in his own business, originally named Daedalus Design. After four years working closely with clients in the San Francisco bay area, he moved north to the Mendocino coast. After renaming his business “A Space In Time” (ASIT), he has focused on working with other designers and architects mostly via electronic means.

The ensuing years have provided Michael opportunities to expand his consulting with various food service designers and in metal fabrication specific to food service. Additionally Michael has worked on many residential projects, both new construction and remodels.
